Beaver County Sheriff's Badge

February 8, 2019

On February 7th, 2019 at approximately 5:09 pm, the Beaver County Sheriff's Office received a call of an avalanche that had swept up two of three snowmobile riders. The subject who called in had been with the two friends in the area commonly known as the "Bowl" or "Anderson Cut #2", located in eastern Beaver Mountains near the border of Piute and Sevier Counties. The caller had tried to warn the other two subjects of the avalanche, however his attempts were unsucessful. The two subjects were buried by the avalanche, one subject was able to dig himself out and attempts are still being made to find the one remaining subject.

The subjects had snowmobiled numerous times in this area, including late earlier this year. They were familiar with the area and the terrain.

Search and Rescue crews from Beaver, Piute, and Sevier Counties were out late into the evening and are back on the mountain continuing their search this morning. Over 50 officials from different agencies including UHP helicopter, Star9, Wasatch Back Country Rescue and National Forest are in Beaver County assisting the search as well.

Names of the subject is not being released at this time.

Sgt. Glen Woolsey is OIC and any question can be directed to him at this time, 435-438-6415.
