Cody Black was elected to the office of Sheriff in January of 2023. Spending the majority of his life here in Beaver, Sheriff Black has strong ties to this community. He graduated Beaver High School in 1991 and married his wife Chenlie (Shelly) in 1995. Together they have 4 children and multiple grandchildren.   

Sheriff Black made his mind up at a very young age that he wanted to work in law enforcement, following in the footsteps of his Grandfather who served as a Beaver City Police Officer and his Great Grandfather who served as a town Marshall. 

In 1994 Sheriff Black graduated Utah Peace Officer Standards Training and quickly started his career with Beaver County as a Patrol Deputy. Early in his career he attended and graduated the corrections academy, as did most patrol deputies, to assist with the opening of the new jail which was built to house state inmates.

Sheriff has served in multiple capacities including Deputy Sheriff Patrol / Corrections, K-9 Handler, Traffic Unit Corporal, Traffic Unit Sergeant, Patrol Sergeant, SWAT Sergeant, Undersheriff Lieutenant, as well as Captain.
